This book is a collection of essays created from workshops facilitated by the author on burnout and stress management. It is written in an easy-to-read format and the notes are interwoven with relevant texts, quotations and stories. The issues addressed include the doctor as a patient, the wounded healer, anger, guilt and loneliness, as well as the doctor's spouse and the difficult partner.
Chris Ellis has been a general medical practitioner for over forty years. He has a fellowship and doctorate in family medicine. His doctoral thesis was an existential phenomenological investigation into unhappiness. He is also a specialist family physician and, before his semi-retirement, was associate professor of family medicine at the University of the United Arab Emirates and an honorary senior lecturer at the Nelson R Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal.
